Alonissos is one of the three islands of the Northern Sporades Symplex, located in the middle of the Aegean Sea. It is the smallest island both in terms of size and population (after Skiathos and Skopelos) and it is the most remote (populated) island of the symplex (from Volos - the capital of the Magnesia Prefecture to which the islands belong administratively). This makes the island less cosmopolitan and crowded, and more traditional and quiet.

Alonissos together with the non-populated islands of Adelfi, Gioura, Kyra Panagia, Peristera, Piperi, Psathoura and Skantzoura are part of the first established Greek National Marine Park. Alonissos Marine Park was established to protect the flora and fauna of the ecosystems concentrated on these islands. The main endangered species the Marine Park is protecting is the Mediteranean Monk Seal (Monachus-Monachus).

The island has many small picturesque beaches surrounded by incredible natural beauty. The access to some of them is quiet difficult, making them a good destination for exploration, relaxation and private moments.

The most beautiful beaches are Agios Dimitrios, Leptos Ialos, Kokinokastro, Megalos Mourtias, just to name a few of them. The waters around the islands of Alonissos are cristally clear, some of the cleanest waters of the Aegean Sea (according to ...)

The population of the island is at 2.700 according to the 2001 Census. The economic activities the population is mostly involved in are agriculture (fiching, olives and olive oil), construction and tourism.

The touristic infrastructure of the island comprise many small (family owned) hotels, apartments and studios, and villas. Most of this infrastrucure has a beautiful panorama to the sea.

There are also many tavernas on the island, but our restaurant is the best :-) that combines tradition and quality.

Besides the classical SSS (sea, sun and s..) than one can enjoy on the island, there are also many activities the island offers for deligh like sea kayaking, scuba diving, walking and hiking, painting, boat trips (simple and to the Marine Park), yoga and fitness activities.

The Alonissos Museum will introduce you to the history and the cultural heritage of the island (historical items like tools and costumes as well as weapons and objects used in the early days by the pirates of the Aegean sea).

Besides Patitiri (the port and the main entering hub of the island), there are also other settlements like Votsi, Steni Vala, Kalamakia. The most outsanding is the old viilage (or Chora - named locally) which is located up on a hil and has a very impressive view. The small alleys of the village travels the visitors back in history.
